Colegio-Privado-Internacional-Britanico-Ingles-Las Palmas-Maspalomas-English-School-Prevencion PediculosisDear Parents: we would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of checking your child's hair regularly for head lice.

With the co-operation of all parents we can control this problem and have fewer incidences of head lice in school.

• Children with long hair should come to school with it tied back in a pony tail.
• Children should be reminded not to share caps, combs, etc...
• Your child's hair should be checked regularly.

To check your child's hair thoroughly, follow these steps:
• Wash and rinse your child's hair (shampoo that has a vinegar base, helps to remove lice eggs from hair).
• Comb through your child's hair with a lice comb from the roots to the tip of the hair.
• Examine the comb against a white surface.
• Clean the comb under the tap to rinse off any lice or eggs found.
• Make sure your child is involved and doesn't feel embarrassed about head lice.

• Inform the school so that a letter can be sent to the rest of their class /year group.
• Inspect the hair of family members.
• Treat the hair with a lice treatment. This can be bought in supermarkets and chemists.
• Wash and disinfect any object that may have come into contact with the lice. Eg. Combs, brushes, clothes, bedclothes, etc.

Remember! Head lice are a common nuisance in schools but with everybody's cooperation we can control the problem.
