Hygiene and Safety Protocols

Dear Parents: we are writing to inform you about the start of next school year regarding hygiene and safety protocols.

We will be following the protocols set out by the relevant authorities in connection with the Coronavirus pandemic. However, as the exact measures necessary for the start of the new academic year 2020-21 have not yet been published, we are working on different possible scenarios for opening next term. Our final school arrangements will be sent out when school arrangements have been confirmed by the Education Department. Amanda Bus will also apply their corresponding protocols.

The emotional and mental well-being of our pupils is of utmost importance to us. It is our duty to share with the pupils what their school will look like and feel like when they return. The routines and experiences may be a shock if we do not prepare them properly for this, particularly for younger children. Firstly, we would be grateful if you could chat to your child at home on basic hygiene and safety measures related to Covid-19. This will enhance what we will be explaining to the pupils in school.

As protocol stands at the moment:

• If your child shows any of the symptoms that match those highlighted by the sanitary authorities, your child must not come to school and you will need to contact your Health Centre.

• Before leaving home each day, please check your child's temperature. As pupils enter school their temperature will be checked again by staff. Pupils using the school bus will have their temperature checked before getting on the bus.

• Your child must come to school with a face mask, if they are 6 or over, (bringing more masks with them, if you think that the duration of the school day necessitates using another one). Children under 6 are recommended to wear a mask but this is not obligatory, as stated in current mask guidelines.

• It is recommended that your child has their school uniform washed on a daily basis. Pupils are not allowed to bring toys or any unnecessary items from home. It's important to talk to your child about not sharing personal items including their snacks.

• If during the school day any pupil is unwell, or shows any of the related Covid 19 symptoms, he/she will be isolated in a safe area and parents contacted to pick their child up. You must contact your Health Centre immediately.

Thank you for your cooperation,

The Canterbury School Management Team
