Maspalomas Newsletter

Dear Parents: Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely holiday. The children have settled back into school well and we are as busy as ever again!

COVID protocols
Obviously with the island being put at Tier 3, we continue to ensure all COVID protocols are being followed in school. Please can you ensure that the children´s masks fit well and do not slip over their noses as some of the straps seem to have got loose from being washed so frequently. We would also appreciate if you would leave the school site quickly, not allowing your children to play with children from other bubbles in the car park.

Diary Dates
Although we are still working hard in our class bubbles, and will have to do things differently this year, we still intend to have the following events with the children in school:
9th February – Internet Safety Day – the children will take part in activities designed to ensure they know how to keep themselves safe online. Other links will be made available on our Frog site.
12th February – Chinese New Year – classes will look at the customs and traditions around Chinese New Year. We are also hoping the kitchen will make a Chinese lunch for us!
3rd March – Carnival – although the island celebrations are cancelled this year, the children may dress up and take part in class-based carnival activities.
4th -5th March – Half term Holiday – School closed

Frog Sites
We are very pleased with the ongoing development of our Frog Site which can provide an excellent link between home and school. We have now added a Google Translate button so that much of the text can be translated into many different languages. This can be found in the right hand corner of the Student Dashboard. Please log on regularly to keep up to date with what is going on in school.
We are also beginning to roll out e-portfolios for each child, starting with Early Years in the next few weeks. If you click the link on Frog, you will be taken to your child's e-portfolio where both school and home will be able to upload photos, pictures and work which will illustrate the children´s progress through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). More information will be sent out in due course.

If for some reason your son/daughter is going to be absent from school, please communicate this to us by e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) first thing in the morning of the first day they are absent. Please also let us know if the child or anyone in the immediate family is being tested for Covid. The school office will call anyone who has not informed us about an absence. Remember all absences, even for one day, need to be justified in writing by parents.

We remind you that the school day begins at 8:30am. Children should be in school before this time. Punctuality is important, as children who arrive late interrupt the class and often miss the explanation at the beginning of a lesson.

If you wish to enrol any younger brothers and sisters to start at Canterbury School in September 2021 please contact the office for the matriculation papers, if you have not already done so.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me by email, or through the school office.

Yours faithfully,

Wendy Edwards
