Y11 Mocks

Colegio-Privado-Internacional-Britanico-Ingles-Las_Palmas-Maspalomas-English-School-mocksMock examinations will take place during December for pupils in Y11: these are similar to the IGCSE examinations they will be taking in May and June and will affect student's internal marks and forecast grades.

Parents will receive the reports in mid-January. The mark will refer exclusively to the grade obtained in the Mock examination of that particular subject and are different from the end of term reports which all parents receive at the end of December.

In Great Britain all students take IGCSE examinations at the end of their normal secondary schooling. In Y11 those pupils who pass 4 IGCSE's at grade C or above proceed mainly to sixth form courses. In S6 (B.N.C. Year 13) pupils who pass 3 or more A levels enter British Universities directly while others focus on other types of professional training. The Spanish Educational authorities have stipulated that as well as passing subjects with internal marks, 4 IGCSE's are necessary to homologate ESO . To validate 'Bachillerato' pupils need 1 IGCSE more, 1 A level and 2 AS, or 2 A levels, in addition to passing subjects internally.

The marks pupils obtain in the Mocks are what we estimate your child will obtain if he sat the IGCSE at that particular moment. The IGCSE examinations are the same for every school: they are taken on the same day and at the same time and are dispatched to us from Great Britain. Teachers in the schools do not correct these examinations but they are returned by post to Great Britain and are corrected by special examination officers.

At Canterbury School the majority of pupils have no problem in passing the necessary 5 IGCSE's, 1 A level and 2 AS's, so that their studies may be validated. If however this is not the case, we will arrange a meeting with the parents concerned towards the end of August to discuss the pupil's situation During the coming few months, we know that we can rely on your support to ensure that your son or daughter will prepare for his or her future in the best possible way.

In late January we will hold a meeting at School for the parents of pupils in Y11 to discuss IGCSE entry procedures and advise parents generally of the possible options for your children's' future careers. I would like to encourage you to check our Guide to parents for University Access which can be found in the ACADEMIA section of the school's webpage.
