To ensure that the school runs smoothly and with your children´s well being in mind, we would like to inform you of the school rules:

  1. Everything related to the payment of school fees, changes on the enrolment sheet (telephone number, address…) should be dealt with through the school secretary. Tindaya’s office hours are Monday to Friday 08.00-15.30. Everything relating to the transport service (routes, fees, times etc) should be directed to the Amanda Bus Company telephone: 928.22.48.38. You can also obtain all the relevant information concerning the next academic year on our website www.Canterburyschool.com regarding:
  • fees, school uniform, books, calendar dates
  • Trip letters, menus, letters for important events and festivals

In order to do our part to save the environment; we will not be distributing paper letters again this year. Instead, all letters will be displayed on the school website and also on our new notice board under the stairs to the office, please ensure that you check  it regularly. Please inform the office if you do not have access to the internet.

Also, please check out the new south blogs to find out about topics, homework and to find out what’s happening in your childs class

  1. The teachers and I are available for parent meetings. To arrange an appointment time we would ask you to contact the office and speak to the secretary. Parent should not interrupt classes during the day. If you need to take your child out of school during school hours please consult the secretary in the office to do so.
  2. The school day starts at 8.30 am, the children should be in the playground before this time in order to line up with their class. We ask that the parents who accompany their children to school in the morning please say good bye at the gate and leave after the first bell has rung at 8.25
  3. We ask that those parents who bring their children to school by car respect the parking zone for the school bus in order to avoid any danger to the children. In the morning, the main school gate will be open from 08.00 and will close promptly at 8.35.  At the end of the school day the parking gate will be open at 15.15 but we request that all parents wait in the parking lot until the school day ends, when we ask parents to enter the playground in order to collect their children. K1 parents will also wait until 3.25. Then they should take the path to the right of the school and walk back to collect their children from the large playground.
  4. The large playground is the place where the children from K2-P5 will meet and line up in the morning 08.00-8.30, please note that there will not be a teacher on duty before 8.00. The children in K1 will meet up at the infant playground. Please say your goodbyes at the gate and take your child’s bag to their peg in  the class. At the end of the day (15.30) The children from k2-P5 will exit from the large playground while the children from K1  will wait to be collected from the infant playground .K2-P1 children will be escorted to the gate at the left of the playground.P2-P5 will leave from the gate at the right of the playground. If your child is going home with someone other than a parent we ask that you inform the school in writing or via the secretary in advance. To respect the grassed areas, we kindly ask that children do not play on these areas or in the car park at 15.30 after school.
  5. The school day is from 8.30-15.30 we would like to insist on the importance of your child commencing classes at the established time. Arriving late not only interrupts the routine and dynamics of the class, the teachers and the other students, but it can also have a negative effect on the education of your child.
  6. If your child is bringing a snack to school, we would suggest fresh food in order to promote a healthy diet. For safety reasons children are not allowed to bring glass bottles. Chewing gum and sunflowers seeds are also prohibited.
  7. Children from K3-P5 will be permitted to bring books (colouring/reading), or table games to school. Please do not send hard balls. Only sponge balls are allowed. If your child plays in the sun should wear a hat and bring in sun screen. The teachers will ensure they apply it correctly. On Fridays, your child can bring their PSP/game/Nintendo. Please ensure that the games are age appropriate and have their names  clearly labelled. K1-k2 children should not bring toys.
  8. Children should come dressed in their P.E. uniform until further notice. The children in K1 will wear their P.E. uniform all year. The children´s clothes should be labelled or marked with their names in order to avoid confusion. The children from K2-P5 should have the following school uniforms with their names clearly labelled:

School winter uniform

  • Skirt/grey trousers, green polo, navy cardigan/jumper, white socks and navy shoes.

P.E and Summer uniform

  • School t shirt, shorts, track suit, white sport socks and white trainers.

  1. We would like to remind you that the children in the K1 and K2 should always have a change of clothing in their bag CLEARLY LABELLED. Please make sure that the children´s bags are small.
  2. There will be P.E. classes throughout the year. On these days the children in K1, K2 and K3 are obliged to come to school dressed in their P.E. uniforms. Children from P1-P3 will change in the classroom. The girls and boys in P4 and P5 will change separately. All children should therefore come dressed in their school uniform and bring their P.E. kits in a bag. The P.E. calendar is:

  1. Children from P1-P5 should bring their own pencil cases/ resources to school with them daily. This includes: pencils, coloured pencils, felt pens, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, rubbers, sharpeners and spiral art pads (23x32.5).
  2. For art sessions, an old shirt or t shirt would be ideal to avoid uniforms from being stained.
  3. If your child needs to take medicine during school hours, please inform the secretary in writing of how and when the medicine should be administered. If your child has a medical appointment, please inform the office/class teacher before the day.
  4. We are quite willing to hand out invitations or gifts regarding children´s birthdays. If you wish to celebrate your son/dauthter´s birthday in school you may only bring in a birthday cake, and please provide plates, serviettes and spoons to serve it out.
  5. Due to the high temperatures and close contact of the children when playing, there is a risk of some children catching headlice.  I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the importance of checking your children’s hair at least once a week and take the necessary measures to eliminate any parasites found immediately.
  6. For the health and safety of our children, please refrain from bringing pets on to the school grounds (however tame they may be) as some children are known to have allergies to animal fur.

Finally, we hope that you respect the school rules and we would like to wish you all a good start to the academic year. Should you have any queries or worries, please do no hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Claudia Gandolfi

Head Teacher
