Moon Camp Challenge

Colegio-Privado-Internacional-Britanico-Ingles-Las Palmas-Maspalomas-English-School-mooncampMassive congratulations to Paula Catalán Santana and Alfonso Medina Marrero, Y10 students, for winning third prize in the Moon Camp Challenge, an international competition organized by the European Space Agency and the Airbus Foundation!

Our two students had to work very hard, facing over 850 participants, and finally getting their well deserved prize in the 13-18 years old category.

Alfonso and Paula had to design a lunar camp in 3D, using the design software AutoDesk, for a future expedition to the moon. The project included extensive documentation to be presented to the jury, where they explained in great detail and scientific basis the decisions made in their design, including aspects such as protection against radiation and the impact of meteorites, obtaining water from lunar sediments, obtaining energy, recycling and food growing chambers, rest and work areas for astronauts, and location of the camp on the moon.

Their prizes include a 3D printer and a videoconference with ESA astronaut Tim Peake, the first European astronaut to step on the international space station.
