In our Infant School, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the English National Curriculum in the Primary School, both adapted to our geographical location and with English immersion.

Welcome to Canterbury School Maspalomas

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our Canterbury Maspalomas School, situated in a unique setting in the south of Gran Canaria.

We have a beautiful building, a large sports area, and attractive garden areas where children can grow their own plants and this year we have opened a “Splash Park”, a water play area for children to explore the properties of water while cooling off in a safe and exciting environment.

Our small class sizes give the school a friendly, family atmosphere where the staff get to know the children and their families very well. But at the same time, we work very closely with our Infant and Primary Schools located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria following the educational standards and academic excellence to ensure the best possible education for our children. With classes designed to be exciting and fun, fostering children’s love of learning while developing a firm grasp of the English language.

Canterbury Maspalomas Infant and Primary School

From 3 to 11 years old

At Canterbury Maspalomas School we follow the UK’s prestigious early childhood education programme. Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which consists of the following courses Nursery (3 years old) and Reception (4 years old); and in primary education we follow the English National Curriculum, consisting of 2 cycles: Key Stage 1 composed of two grades, Y1 and Y2 (5 and 6 years old) and Key Stage 2 composed of four grades, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 (from 7 to 11 years old).

In our school, the final Y6 year is taught at Canterbury St. Lawrence School in order for the children to adjust to the change of school and integrate with their new classmates, making the transition between Primary and Secondary as smooth as possible.

Classes are lively, fun, and challenging and provide students with many opportunities to think critically and independently, with an atmosphere that encourages enthusiasm for learning and promotes personal development, providing them with a learning environment where they feel at home, are more likely to explore new concepts and ideas and build a firm foundation for future learning.

Bilingual Education

We use the methodology of English immersion, so that our children grow up surrounded by English in a natural way we place a strong emphasis on teaching the language, which allows communication in English from a very early age as we consider it essential to speak and understand the language before learning to read and write.
